The Colleague Who Wasn't There is a two-minute animated security-awareness explainer about one of the fastest-growing threats to finance teams: deepfake "whaling" scams. Viewers follow Ethan, a careful finance director, as an urgent request from a trusted overseas colleague escalates to a live video call, and then discover that no one on the call was real. The story is modeled on real 2024 cases, including a company that lost $25 million exactly this way. To this end, the piece combines character animation, a two-voice AI narration (a calm narrator and the persuasive "colleague"), a glitch-and-wireframe deepfake reveal, and motion graphics synced word for word to the voiceover. It teaches the three tells every scam relies on (urgency, secrecy and a strange ask) and a simple response: pause, verify, report.
